ATB
b. Andr‚ Tanneberger, Freiberg, Germany. Recording under the abbreviation ATB, Tanneberger, who had worked as a remixer for acts such as the Outhere Brothers and Haddaway, came to fame in July 1999 when his melodic trance single "9pm (Till I Come)" became a UK number 1 hit. The single was distinctive for its infectious melody and its synthesized slide guitar sound. Its feel-good ambience and funky percussion and bassline made it a perfect candidate to become the summer's Ibiza anthem, and to cross over into the mainstream charts as Stardust's "Music Sounds Better With You" had done in 1998. It had already received a great deal of radio airplay across continental Europe and had proved massively popular in the clubs. The track was featured on ATB's full-length debut and numerous club-based compilations, and spawned various inferior imitations. In the UK, the track was licensed from Germany's Kontor Records by Ministry Of Sound Recordings. He also mixed their 1999 compilation Clubber's Guide To Trance and played a live DJ set at the club itself. A lame cover version of Adamski's "Killer" reached the UK Top 5 in March 2000. Tanneberger has maintained a steady following in Europe and in particular his native Germany, scoring bit hits in the new millennium with "You're Not Alone", "I Don't Wanna Stop", "Marrakech", and "Ecstasy".
