The Jaggerz
Formed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA in 1965, the Jaggerz comprised Dominic Ierace (b. Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, USA; vocals/guitar), Billy Maybray (b. William R. Maybray Snr., 1944, d. 5 December 2004, USA; bass), Thom Davies (b. Duquesne, Pennsylvania, USA; organ), Eugene "Benny" Faiella (b. Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, USA; guitar), Jimmie Ross (b. Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, USA; bass) and Jim Pugliano (b. James Pugliano; drums). Pittsburgh entrepreneur Joe Rock introduced the unit to producers Gamble And Huff, who signed them to their own Gamble label in 1969, with one album but no hits resulting. They next signed with Kama Sutra Records, and released "The Rapper", a funky rocker written by Ierace under his stage name Donnie Iris. The song reached number 2 in the US charts. Follow-up singles failed although the band continued into the mid-70s, without Maybray and with Frank Czuri replacing Davies. Iris toured with the funk act Wild Cherry before going on to a moderately successful solo career in the early 80s. Ross, Faiella and Pugliano teamed up with Dennis McAbee (guitar), Jamie Peck (saxophone), Hermie Granati (keyboards/vocals) and David Granati (guitar) in 1998 to record a CD comprising old Jaggerz favourites and new songs. Another new album followed in 2001.
