Terry Jacks
b. c.1953, Winnipeg, Canada. Jacks was a former member of the hit group Poppy Family, and a well-known session player. While working in the studio with the Beach Boys, he attempted to persuade them to record "Le Moribund", a song about a dying man by French composer Jacques Brel. When the group declined, Jacks himself recorded the English translation by Rod McKuen, retitled "Seasons In The Sun". A smash hit in Canada, it subsequently reached number 1 in both the US and UK charts. Although Jacks enjoyed one further hit with a cover of Brel's "If You Go Away", no other successes followed, and the singer moved into environmental work.
