Ocean
A song that owed much of its stylistic origin to pure hand-clapping gospel gave Ocean from Canada their one and only true hit in the spring of 1971. "Put Your Hand In The Hand", originally recorded by Anne Murray, was written by Gene MacLellan, who also composed Murray's hit "Snowbird". Ocean, who were initially called Leather And Lace, rearranged the song themselves and sent copies to radio stations, resulting in the US number 2 hit. Ocean consisted of Janice Morgan (lead vocals), Jeff Jones (bass), Dave Tamblyn (lead guitar), Greg Brown (keyboard, vocals) and Chuck Slater (drums). After three other minor chart singles, the group disbanded in 1975, although they remained together domestically living on a Canadian farm. Sadly, during the 80s, Chuck Slater committed suicide.
