M.O.P.
Their name standing for Mash Out Posse, Lil' Fame and Billy Danzenie (b. Eric Murray) were the faces behind one of Select Records' freshest hardcore arrivals of 1994. They came to prominence when "How About Some Hardcore", included on the House Party 3 soundtrack, took off. Fame had already made his debut with three tracks on 4th & Broadway's The Hill That's Real. After a projected solo contract with the label fell through, he hooked up with old friend Danzenie, then fresh out from a prison stretch. When "Hardcore" succeeded they elected to make the partnership a permanent one. Both had grown up in Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York, and brought a sense of justice to their summaries of urban life. M.O.P. was the title of the gang they ran with, who in turn descended from the Tomahawks. M.O.P. thus started life as an 11-piece, but, according to legend, four of that number were cut down in gang fights, and five more are in jail. The sole remainder numbered Fame and Danzenie, alongside producer/manager Lazy Laz. Their debut album, produced by Darryl D, included the predictable put-downs of "F.A.G.'"s (fake-ass gangstas), while "Blue Steel" confirmed that "Nowadays shit is for real - so I'm packin' blue steel".
