Ollie & Jerry
The R&B duo of Ollie Brown and Jerry Knight came from Los Angeles, California, USA. This dance music producing and writing team briefly charted courtesy of two soundtrack items from the motion picture Breakin'. Their "Breakin' . . . There's No Stopping Us" went to number 3 in the US R&B chart and number 9 national in 1984, and later in the year "Electric Boogie" proved to be a minor R&B hit at number 45. In the UK, "Breakin' . . . There's No Stopping Us" went to number 5 in 1984, and "Electric Boogaloo" went to number 57 in 1985. The Ollie and Jerry team was somewhat of an outgrowth of their work together on several albums for Ray Parker, Jnr., and his Raydio group. Brown continued his career in Detroit in 1975, playing drums with Edwin Starr, Stevie Wonder and the Rolling Stones, and beginning in 1978 as guest drummer for Raydio. By the early 80s he was producing for such acts as Patti Austin and Klique. Knight began his musical career as bass player in Bill Withers' band, and then moved to Raydio, where he sang the high parts as well as played bass. He charted with three albums, Jerry Knight (1980), Perfect Fit (1981) and Love's On Our Side (1983) and six singles, notably "Overnight Sensation" (US R&B number 17, 1980) and "Perfect Fit' (1981), before teaming up with Ollie Brown on the soundtrack titles for Breakin".
