Big Tymers
This rap duo is a side project formed by the co-founders of Cash Money Records, the hugely successful New Orleans, Louisiana, USA-based record label. Bryan "Baby" Williams (b. 15 February 1969, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA) and Mannie Fresh first met in the early 90s, and shortly afterwards founded Cash Money with Bryan's brother, Ronald "Suga Slim" Williams. Fresh adopted the role of in-house producer while the Williams brothers concentrated on the business side, gradually establishing Cash Money as one of the leading independent rap labels and putting southern hip-hop on the map. Fresh and Baby Williams continued to collaborate in the studio, leading to the formation of the Big Tymer$. The duo appeared on most releases put out by the label, and also found the time to record their own disc, How You Luv That, in 1998. The album, which featured contributions from virtually every one of the label's acts, was a brash celebration of Cash Money's materialistic ethos, partially redeemed by Fresh's fluid production. It sold strongly in the south and mid-west, and was re-released in 1999 following the label's national distribution contract with Universal Records. Their equally forthright second album was released the following May. A third studio collection, Hood Rich, reached the top of the US album charts in May 2002. Williams, recording under the Baby pseudonym, released his solo debut shortly afterwards.
