Stories
This US pop band came together in the wake of the disbandment of the Left Banke. Multi-instrumentalist Michael Brown (b. Michael Lookofsky, 25 April 1949, New York City, New York, USA) had recorded a baroque pop album with Montage since leaving his former band, but was searching for a strong, harmonic unit and brought together Ian Lloyd (b. Ian Buoncocglio, Seattle, Washington, USA; vocals, bass), Steve Love (guitar) and Bryan Madey (drums). However, after completing two album for Kama Sutra Records Brown dramatically quit (he resurfaced in 1977 with the Beckies). Determined to soldier on, the band recruited two new members, Kenny Aaronson (bass) and Ken Bichel (keyboards). An opportune cover version of Hot Chocolate's UK hit "Brother Louie" (itself inspired from the Richard Berry classic "Louie Louie") brought the Stories a surprise US number 1 hit in 1973. Two further US hits followed, "Mammy Blue" and "If It Feels Good, Do It" (as Ian Lloyd & Stories), before the band abruptly split up. Lloyd alone registered some further success with the minor hit "Slip Away" in 1979.
