Ken Vandermark
Saxophonist Ken Vandermark is the lynch pin of the Chicago underground jazz community. Vandermark, who got his start as a member of Hal Russell's experimental NRG Ensemble, is an amazingly prolific recording artist and live performer and has collaborated with what seems like any and every important artist in the Chicago avant-garde and underground scenes of the late 1980s, '90s, and 2000s. Of his many ensembles and projects, perhaps the most well-known is the long-running Vandermark 5.
