London, England born and bred dance music trio whose esoteric recordings were variously described as "Dance-Noise-Terror" and "Chas And Dave with a beatbox'. Comprising the multi-faceted instrumentalists, Danny Briotett (ex-Mass), Carl Bonnie and Gary Asquith (ex-Mass), the trio claimed: "We're a by-product of punk. It forged the way we think, though the sound is nothing to do with it.' Their first single, 1987"s "Kray Twins", emerged on Rhythm King Records, and featured the sound of a television documentary set to a throbbing bass undertow. After the equally notorious "Cocaine Sex" (packaged in a coke envelope) they switched to Mute Records because of the greater eclecticism of their catalogue. A series of dancefloor singles such as "The Phantom", "Biting My Nails" and "Probably A Robbery" (a UK Top 40 hit) prefaced a debut album that included an unlikely cover version of "Can't Get Used To Losing You". Their aggressive dancefloor attack was continued the same year with In Dub, on which "Holgertron" made use of the theme music to BBC Television's Doctor Who. Bonnie left for a solo career shortly afterwards.
