It is ironic, therefore, that her solo career failed to come close to the success enjoyed by her old band. Her first offering, 1991"s When You're A Boy (including an ill-advised cover version of David Bowie's "Boys Keep Swinging") failed to maintain the interest of the mainstream fans who had discovered the Bangles in the wake of the smash single "Eternal Flame", while simultaneously alienating the Paisley Underground loyalists with its AOR clich‚s.
