Gravity Kills
Modern-day St. Louis, USA, the cradle of the blues, seems an unlikely place to start a band firmly in the Nine Inch Nails style of industrial metal; yet Gravity Kills' genesis was as unusual as the unlikely setting from which they emerged. The roots of the band can be traced back to late 1995 when the unit of Matt Dudenhoeffer (guitar), Douglas Firley (keyboards), Kurt Kerns (bass, drums) and Kern's cousin Jeff Scheel (vocals) decided they wanted one of their tracks to be included on the local radio station compilation album. They produced "Guilty" in six frantic hours and beat the radio station deadline by half an hour. The single showed an incredible degree of songwriting awareness and boasted a danceable, hypnotic rhythm. Suddenly Gravity Kills were an ongoing concern.
