Dave Hollister
b. Chicago, Illinois, USA. This journeyman R&B singer-songwriter first appeared on releases by artists such as Mary J. Blige and 2Pac, in addition to providing vocals on several soundtrack albums. Hollister's big break was as an original member of Teddy Riley's BLACKstreet. After appearing on the swingbeat quartet's seminal 1994 debut, Hollister left to pursue a solo career which has seen him blending smooth soul vocals with a resolutely old-fashioned anti-player image. He debuted for the DreamWorks label with 1999's Ghetto Hymns, which included the minor hit "Baby Mama Drama'. The following year's Chicago "85 " The Movie was a more impressive set, keying into the success of urban soul contemporaries such as R. Kelly and Joe, even down to a retread of the latter's agenda setting 'Don't Wanna Be A Player" on "I Don't Want To Be A Hustler". Hollister subsequently signed a new recording contract with Motown Records, debuting for the label in October 2002 with Things In The Game Done Changed.
