Vinnie Moore
b. 1965, USA. This jazz-trained virtuoso guitarist was playing the guitar competently by the age of 12. Picked up by talent scout Mike Varney, he was introduced to the techno-thrash band Vicious Rumours, with whom he recorded Soldiers Of The Night in 1985. He left the band as soon as the album was released to concentrate on a solo career. Mind's Eye emerged in 1986, a self-written guitar instrumental collection. This combined a fusion of classical jazz, blues and hard rock that was heavily melodic and technically brilliant, earning comparisons to Joe Satriani's finest work. Two subsequent albums followed a similar pattern but were mellower still, after which he was employed by Alice Cooper as lead guitarist on his 1991 Hey Stoopid tour.
