Vengaboys
The Netherlands-based Vengaboys became an almost permanent fixture on singles charts throughout Europe during the late 90s with their banal brand of lightweight euro house. Reclusive Dutch DJs Danski and Delmundo, who had already built up a name for themselves on the Balearic club circuit, masterminded the group. They hired four Dutch singers/dancers, Kim, Roy, Denice, and Robin, and created the Vengaboys, and invented exotic birthplaces such as Brazil, Venezuela, Trinidad and Hungary to enliven their biographies. Their singles were initially released in Holland, and then licensed to various independent labels in different countries. A succession of huge European hits ensued, including "Up And Down", "We Like To Party! (The Vengabus)"), "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!", "We're Going To Ibiza!", and "Kiss (When The Sun Don't Shine)". An equally successful album was released under various titles throughout Europe. Certainly not regarded as credible artists by dance music cognoscenti, the Vengaboys produce a pop/dance hybrid that speaks to a teenage audience as well as less discerning clubbers.
