Romanthony
b Anthony Wayne Moore, New Jersey, USA. The multi-talented Romanthony contributes vocals, guitar, keyboards and production to his records, but despite being a cult figure often touted as house music's answer to Prince he is in greater demand as a producer and remixer. Romanthony's singles career began on his own label, Blackmale Records, in New Jersey, but he found greater recognition in Europe. UK label Azuli released several of his singles, including "Ministry Of Love" and "Let Me Show You Love". A long running connection with Daft Punk began in 1994 with the tracks "Hold On" and "The Wanderer', released on Thomas Bangalter's Roule label. The duo's blend of gospel, blues and house was brought together on Romanworld, an Azuli-released showcase of Romanthony's solo output up to 1997. Having established himself as a familiar name on the underground scene, Romanthony signed to Kevin McKay's Glasgow Underground label for Instinctual. Co-written with DJ Predator, its experimental deep, funky garage sounds reinforced the Prince link. Never formulaic, Romanthony continues to delight in the unexpected, no more so than when he closed his third album, 2000"s R Hide In Plain Site, with a string of R&B jams. The album adopted a lo-fi production style and a wide range of expression, and was mostly starker in colour than Instinctual. The 1999 compilation, In The Mix, drew principally on his own material and included several commissions. A gifted vocalist, Romanthony co-wrote and sang on Daft Punk's 2001 hit "One More Time", and the Parisians have long credited his influence. The same year, as Phatt Pussycat, Romanthony released Phatt Life, which included the uplifting house single "Find A Way".
