Kerri Chandler
b. 28 September 1969, East Orange, New Jersey, USA. A DJ/producer of significant repute, Chandler was one of the east coast's most successful garage (the US variety of soulful, gospel-influenced house) and deep house producers during the 90s, among peers such as Jerome Sydenham, Joe Claussell, Masters At Work, Phil Asher and Dennis Ferrer. Something of a child prodigy, Chandler was influenced by his DJing father and took to the decks before reaching his teens. Chandler's debut performance was at the Rally Record Club in East Orange when he was just 13. Two years later he was making his first recordings. Growing up in New Jersey, he looked up to the DJ Tony Humphries, who was making his name at the famous Zanzibar club. Chandler released his early productions on his own label, Express Records. In 1991, Atlantic Records signed his tracks "Super Lover"/"Get It Off". This single firmly established his reputation and he has gone on to release further singles on some of the most respected house labels such as King Street, Strictly Rhythm Records, Large, Nervous Records and NiteGrooves as well as those on his own Madhouse Records. Singles such as "(You're My) Inspiration", "Hallelujah" and "Stompin' Grounds" were all successes in clubs on both sides of the Atlantic, and featured Chandler's trademark bass lines and thumping kick drum. In 1993, he played with a more experimental and jazz-influenced sound on the EP, The Atmosphere. Chandler's album debut, Kaoz On King Street appeared in 1997 and was a critical and commercial hit. He has also released a number of mix compilation albums and continues to appear as a DJ at clubs and events the world over.
