Ugly Duckling
Although virtually unknown outside of their native Canada, the Ugly Ducklings were popular there during the mid-60s. The group formed in Montreal, Ontario, as the Strolling Bones in 1965, consisting of Dave Byngham (vocals), Roger Mayne (guitar), Glynn Bell (guitar), John Read (bass) and Robin Boers (drums). Their first four singles, in the hard-edged pop style of the day, were released on Canada's Yorktown label in 1966-67, but it was their fifth, "Gaslight", on Yorkville, which became the group's biggest hit, a number 1 record in Canada. They also recorded one album for Yorktown before splitting in 1967. In 1980, the original group reunited for a new album, subsequently fading from the scene once again.
