The Wilkinsons
This country family trio comprises Steve Wilkinson (b. 18 August 1955, Belleville, Ontario, Canada; guitar), and two of his three children, Amanda (b. 17 January 1982, Belleville, Ontario, Canada; vocals) and Tyler (b. 30 April 1984, Belleville, Ontario, Canada; vocals). Steve, who worked as a carpenter in Trenton, Ontario, was a budding songwriter who had already placed several songs with Canadian performers. Having regularly sung for family and friends the family trio began to turn heads in their native Ontario when they started singing on a more professional basis, but things really took off after they relocated from Trenton to Nashville, Texas in 1997. They were courted by several major labels, but eventually decided to sign a recording contract with Warner Brothers Records' subsidiary Giant. Nothing But Love included the trio's bestselling country hit "26c", a tear-jerking tale of a mother's fears for her absent teenage daughter. The rest of the album followed the same lightweight country pop blueprint, with "Fly" and the rousing Skip Ewing song "The Yodelin' Blues" the best of the rest. The follow-up Here And Now proved to be a major success in 2000. The album moved towards more straightforward pop songs such as the single "Jimmy's Got A Girlfriend" and "Don't Look At Me Like That". The latter was one of several tracks to feature Tyler, now 16 years old, on lead vocals. Amanda's vocals on "1999" and "I'll Know Love" also demonstrated a growing maturity.
