Publicity shy London, England-based dance fusion act formed in 1990 by Dennis "Dego" McFarlane and Mark "Marc Mac' Clair, who first emerged at the height of the late 80s acid house explosion. Together they established the Dollis Hill-based Reinforced Records, which became the foremost UK outlet for hardcore techno (at that time often referred to as dark hardcore). Their releases for Reinforced included 1991"s devastating "Mr Kirk's Nightmare", which provided a thematic bridge between hardcore and the embryonic jungle/breakbeat scene. Alongside Goldie, who joined Reinforced in the early 90s, 4 Hero became innovative members of a new aristocracy in the dance community, though unlike Goldie, the duo eschewed publicity. As well as 4 Hero the duo released singles as Manix, Tom&Jerry (not the Simon And Garfunkel duo), Jacob (whose Optical Stairway EP was inspired by the writings of Nostradamus), Clair's Nu Era project, and MacFarlane's solo project, Tek 9.
