Sunscreem
The main movers behind this durable UK dance music act are technical guru Paul Carnell and vocalist/programmer Lucia Holm (b. Maidstone, Kent, England). The latter had played cello on Dream Academy's 80s hit "Life In A Northern Town". Working in partnership with musicians Darren Woodford, Wayne Simms, Rob Fricker and Sean Wright, Sunscreem were touted as the first live band playing rave music and, by the early 90s, had developed an affinity for the upper regions of the UK pop charts. Operating from their own Essex-based studio, they scored with singles such as "Pressure", "Love U More" and "Perfect Motion" (the latter of which broke into the UK Top 20 in 1992). The following year's version of Marianne Faithfull's "Broken English", performed live on television show The Word, also won them admirers. Further crossover hits during the mid-90s included "When", "Exodus", "White Skies", "Secrets", and "Catch", but since their chart heyday Carnell and Holm have continued to release high quality material for a variety of labels. They have also recorded under the pseudonyms Anna, Chiba and Winchester Club.
