Clay People
Formed in Albany, New York, USA, the Clay People blend elements of techno, industrial, and heavy metal in an aggressive, if not unique sound. In the early years of the band's existence (when they were simply Clay People) many different members passed through the ranks, with vocalist Dan Neet the mainstay. The band's first album, 1993's Firetribe, was an inauspicious start, lacking musical focus with Neet's vocals being especially poor. Much of the problems that detracted from the first release were remedied for the second album, The Iron Icon (1995), which introduced guitarist Brian McGarvey. Although Neet's vocals were again unusual, when combined with crushing rhythms and intense electronica it proved to be a much stronger effort. Stone: Ten Stitches followed in 1997, with Neet's vocals now much improved, and the band maintaining a formidable intensity that recalled Fear Factory and Stabbing Westward in part, while the production of George Hagegeorge added a much-needed clarity.
