Sixpence None The Richer
While they take their name from a C.S. Lewis passage on Christianity, and their lyrics are unabashedly religious, Sixpence None the Richer is better known for rich pop, as showcased on the 1999 international hit "Kiss Me," than for their spirituality. Formed near Austin, Texas, around the fulcrum of singer Leigh Nash and songwriter/guitarist Matt Slocum, the group's second album, 1995's THIS BEAUTIFUL MESS, created quite a buzz on the fringe of the burgeoning emo/alt-rock crowd. However, it was with the self-titled follow-up that Sixpence earned an international following, which endured beyond one-hit wonder status.
