b. Sascha Lappessen, 22 February 1971, Wuppertal, Germany. Created in a studio on an industrial estate in Dsseldorf, Germany, Sash!'s brand of easy-listening dance music became a huge international crossover pop success during the late 90s. Lappessen began recording music in his spare time, while working in a record store, before teaming up with producer DJ Thomas Ldke and engineer/producer Ralf Kappmeier. The team's working practice of sending out an uncredited final cut of a track to club DJs to gauge dancefloor reaction enabled them to build up club and radio support, ensuring strong demand for their official releases on the Telstar offshoot, Multiply. Three bestselling singles in 1997 followed a successful blueprint of featuring a guest vocalist over a dancefloor friendly backing track. "Encore Une Fois" (featuring Sabine Ohmes), "Ecuador" (featuring Adrian Rodriguez) and "Stay' (featuring Frankie La Trec) went Top 10 all over Europe, with all three reaching number 2 in the UK charts. It's My Life re-entered the UK charts in November on the back of the singles" success, eventually climbing to number 7. Despite carping critics accusing Sash! of purveying a lightweight version of the Faithless sound, the DJ earned a 1998 BRIT nomination for Best International Male Solo Artist. His run of UK chart hits continued into 1998, with "La Primavera" (number 3 in February), "Mysterious Times" (featuring Tina Cousins) (number 2 in August) and "Move Mania" (featuring Shannon) (number 8 in November). A new album, Life Goes On, debuted at UK number 5 in September. The team also undertook remixing work for a wide range of artists, including Kylie Minogue, Dario G. and OMD. A new single, "Colour The World", debuted at number 15 in March 1999. Sash! bounced back in February 2000 with the number 2 hit, "Adelante". Trilenium followed in April.
