Pink Floyd
From their first Syd Barrett-led psych-pop record to their concept albums and elaborately presented live shows of the 1970s, these space-rock pioneers reached unprecedented heights of commercial and aesthetic success. Their '73 opus, DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, remained on the album charts for an astounding 14 years, making it one of the best-selling records ever. Even after the departure of main conceptualist Roger Waters following 1983's THE FINAL CUT, Floyd continued to release albums well into the '90s, with David Gilmour leading the band.

Pink Floyd's "Learning To Fly" is the number one song that comes to my mind when I'm flying in an airplane. Another great great album of theirs is the "Animals" album. The song "High Hopes" blew my mind the first time I heard it. -

PINK FLOYD is not simply one of the progenitors of progressive rock, but is probably the most popular group in the entire genre. -

Pink Floyd define their genre while being unique. I cry every night over the music they could've created if Roger Waters hadn't split up with the rest, but The Wall don't leave much to be desired anyway. -
sherylmckenna on 2007-03-12 21:13:38.960:
I never got to see them in concert. I would sell my soul to see them play live like they did at Live 8. DSOTM was my first Floyd album when I was in high school. Eventually, I owned everything that was easily available. They were also the topic of my senior project in college. -
jasstewart on 2007-02-23 14:56:26.023:
I received DSOTM as a birthday present in 1973. After almost 34 years, Pink Floyd still is my choice of music above all else. Three live concerts, countless LP's, 8-tracks (yes Virginia, there was such a thing as 8-track tapes. "Animals" had a great guitar solo treat included in it not to be included in any later releases), cassettes, cd's and dvd's have been added to my collection. Pink Floyd's music is precision and perfection. -
