Yello
Swiss synth-pop outfit Yello has a back story almost as quirky as their sample-heavy dance music. The group was formed in the late 1970s by the duo of Boris Blank and Carlos Peron and augmented by vocalist/conceptualist Dieter Meier, a billionaire industrialist, gambler, and member of the Swiss national golf team. The trio's music is an odd mix of infectious beats, buoyant synth lines, and a bizarre sense of humor played out via Meier's vocals. Though Yello had an important influence on the development of techno music and its various strains, the group is best known in the mainstream for its single "Oh Yeah," which has appeared in numerous movies and television shows, including FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF and THE SIMPSONS.

In my top 5 bands of all time. Turn all the lights off, crank it up, and listen to the layers of music and rhythm. Masterful!
