Mint Juleps
This UK a cappella soul group from London's east end, consisted of sisters Debbie, Lizzie, Sandra and Marcia Charles, plus their friends Debbie and Julie. They all formerly worked together at the Half Moon Young People's Theatre, where they decided to form a group. They played at various benefits and toured with Sister Sledge and Billy Bragg, and worked as backing singers for Bob Geldof, the Belle Stars and Dr. Feelgood. They signed to Stiff Records, and were managed by former Darts members Rita Ray and Rob Fish. The Mint Juleps recorded vocal versions of Neil Young's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart", Robert Palmer's "Every Kinda People", and the original "Girl To The Power Of 6" (produced by Trevor Horn). They later moved away from a cappella into a style of lightweight rap in the same vein as Salt-N-Pepa. They appeared on the ex-Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart's Mystery Box in 1996.
