The Beat
Formed in San Francisco in 1979, the new wave/pop band the Beat was led by Paul Collins, who had previously played in power-pop band the Nerves, with Peter Case, who later joined the Plimsouls, and songwriter Jack Lee (whose "Hanging On The Telephone" was a hit for Blondie). The Beat signed with Bill Graham's management company and secured a recording contract with Columbia Records. Their debut, The Beat, was popular on college radio but never broke nationally. Their second album and a 1983 EP for Passport Records, recorded with a new line-up, failed to garner much interest and the group broke up.

you need to better extricate the song listings for the (usa)(Paul Collins) Beat from the (english) Beat.
