Neutral Milk Hotel
Athens, GA's Neutral Milk Hotel were one the key bands in the late-1990s Elephant Six Collective--a loose configuration of bands that often shared members and played an indie-rock update of 1960s psychedelic pop. The band, led by mastermind Jeff Mangum, released only two albums proper; however, both ON AVERY ISLAND and THE AEROPLANE OVER THE SEA proved to be veritable masterpieces. The band went on indefinite hiatus, much to the chagrin of fans, shortly after the second album's release.
