Steve Poltz
b. 19 February 1960, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. This singer-songwriter relocated to San Diego, California, USA, at an early age owing to his father's work as an air conditioning salesman. After forming the Rugburns with Robert "Doc" Driscoll in 1982, the duo worked in bars and recorded a number of self-released cassettes before enlisting more members and releasing two albums at the start of the 90s. When the Rugburns fizzled out at the end of the 90s, Poltz teamed up with Canadian singer Jewel and co-wrote her highly successful 1997 single "You Were Meant For Me", and also played guitar on her solo debut Pieces Of You. On the strength of his connection to Jewel, he signed a contract with Mercury Records and released his solo debut, One Left Shoe, in 1998. Stellar guest musicians such as Van Dyke Parks, Benmont Tench and Jim Keltner helped out on the session for this pleasant if unassuming collection of adult alternative pop.
