Danny Wilson
This quality pop act from Dundee, Scotland featured Kit Clark (guitar/vocals), Gary Clark (guitar/vocals), and Ged Grimes (keyboards/vocals). Named after Frank Sinatra's character in the movie Meet Danny Wilson, their clean-cut image was enshrined by their reputation for tidying up hotel rooms after "trashing" them. The trio emerged in 1985, blending Steely Dan and soul harmonics on their promising debut album. Meet Danny Wilson boasted the hit singles "Mary's Prayer", an extended Catholic metaphor, and "Davy". The subsequent album was too derivative in its focus on 60s beat, although it did provide another hit in "Second Summer Of Love". Sweet Danny Wilson is a retrospective compiling the best of the two aforementioned albums.
