finetune artist: Alan Silvestri

b. New York, USA. A prolific composer of film music, from the 70s through to the 90s. Silvestri studied at the Berklee College Of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, before scoring some low-budget movies and working on the US television series Chips In the late 70s and early 80s he composed the music for Las Vegas Lady, The Amazing Dobermans (starring Fred Astaire in an off-beat role), and Par Ou Tes Rentre? (1984). Subsequently he scored blockbuster productions such as Romancing The Stone, Back To The Future, and the remarkable live-action Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988). His other credits during the 80s included Fandang, Summer Rental, Delta Force, Flight Of The Navigator, No Mercy, Outrageous Fortune, Predator, Overboard, My Stepmother Is An Alien, She's Out Of Control, The Abyss, and Back To The Future Part II (1989). In the following year, Silvestri also scored the third and final episode of director Robert Zemeckis' time-travel series, Back To The Future Part III, starring Michael J. Fox. During the early 90s Silvestri continued to compose for highly commercial movies such as Young Guns II, Predator 2, Dutch, Soapdish, Ricochet, Shattered, Driving Me Crazy, Father Of The Bride (a re-make of the 1950 classic starring Steve Martin), Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, Death Becomes Her, The Bodyguard, Cop And A Half, Super Mario Brothers, The Abyss: Special Edition, Grumpy Old Men, Blown Away, Forrest Gump, and Richie Rich (1994). In 1992, following Ashman and Menken's recent success with The Little Mermaid and Beauty And The Beast, Silvestri composed the music for the animated feature, Ferngully...The Last Rainforest, based on Diana Young's stories, Ferngully. In 1995, he was honoured by BMI with its Richard Kirk Award for career achievement.
