Marcos Valle
b. 14 September 1943, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Following in the wake of Joao Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim, Marcos Valle is one of the second wave of early bossa nova composers, straddling both the traditional bossa nova world and lighter pop jazz fusion. One of Brazil's best-known singer-songwriters, Valle has recorded numerous albums since the 60s, and his Samba '68 introduced the genre classic "Summer Samba (So Nice)" (sometimes written as "So Nice (Summer Samba)") that has been covered by artists as disparate as Frank Sinatra, Bebel Gilberto and Homer Simpson. "To many people, Marcos Valle is Brazil", claims Joe Davis, of Far Out Recordings, the label that issued his albums in the late 90s and early years of the new millennium, "His up-tempo bossas personify the youthful optimism of the Brazilian people whilst his poignant ballads reflect their often overlooked melancholy."
