Mia X
b. New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. The first female rapper to sign to Master P's highly successful No Limit Records. Like most of her fellow labelmates, Mia X was born in New Orleans. She moved to Queens as a teenager, however, gaining her first recording experience with New York Incorporated. She moved back to Louisiana where she became involved with Master P and his rapidly expanding No Limit empire. Her 1995 debut Good Girl Gone Bad appeared through Priority Records, but she made her real breakthrough with Unlady Like, which debuted at US number 21 in July 1997. By now Mia X was deliberately aping the provocative sexuality of female rappers such as Foxy Brown and Lil' Kim, but without the originality and musical nous of the former. The follow-up Mama Drama broke her into the US Top 10 when it debuted at number 7 in November 1998.
