Trumpeter Maynard Ferguson is best known as the ultimate "screaming" trumpeter; blasting away in the upper register of his horn with the intensity of a full-force gale. He came to the US from Canada in the early '50s to join Stan Kenton's Orchestra, and has been touring relentlessly and making some great records ever since.

  My first jazz album was given to me at Christmas when I was about 11 or 12 and it was Maynard's MF Horn II album. That got me into jazz and it's been a love of mine ever since. I'm glad that and "Live at Jimmy's" are finally available on CD. Get them, listen to them, love them!
