Lords of Acid
This dance music act first made their mark in the late 80s on Belgium's "new beat" scene, before successfully crossing over to enjoy a series of rave hits in the early 90s. Producer Praga Khan (b. Maurice Engelen) first collaborated with Jade 4U (b. Nikkie Van Lierop) under the pseudonyms Shakti, Dirty Harry, 101, Jade 4U and Praga Khan. The most successful of these was the 1989 Lords Of Acid track "I Sit On Acid", a hedonistic anthem to sex which was a big hit in clubs. In 1991, Engelen and Van Lierop (aka Darling Nikkie) teamed up with former collaborator Oliver Adams to produce techno anthems under the MNO banner. These included hits by Praga Khan, Channel X and Digital Orgasm, but the most successful release proved to be the debut long-player by Lords Of Acid. Lust was housed in a provocative album cover featuring model and live vocalist Candy's Caddie (b. Nathalie Delaet), and repeated the formula of "I Sit On Acid" ad nauseam, with song titles such as "Rough Sex" and "Pump My Body To The Top" indicative of the subject matter. A major US recording contract with Rick Rubin's American Recordings followed in 1992.
