Liz Story
b. 1957, Southern California, USA. Fascinated and attracted to pianos from an early age Story has produced a series of excellent solo piano albums over the past decade. Her debut in 1983 with Solid Colours showed considerable promise, having been influenced by both Mozart and Bill Evans. her music became identified with the new-age music that her record company Windham Hill Records were pioneering at that time. She recorded two albums with Novus in the late 80s but returned to Windham Hill in 1990 having developed a fuller, chordal sound which was showcased on Escape Of The Circus Ponies. Her unashamedly romantic My Foolish Heart was a collection of standards and showcased excellent versions of Rogers and Hart's "My Romance" and Ellington/Webster's "I Got It Bad (And That Aint Good)". The Gift was an atmospheric album of Christmas music and following the project Story re-examined her Spanish Catholic childhood and her own religious beliefs. My Foolish Heart and the simply titled Liz Story were attempts to broaden her appeal beyond lovers of new age related music. By playing jazz and pop standards from the golden age of songwriting she has become more marketable for her longstanding record company.
