Killarmy
This New York, USA-based rap crew comprises Killa Sin, Shogun Assasson, 9th Prince (aka North Star/Madman), Beretta 9, Islord (aka Thief Of Bagdad) and Dom Pachino (aka PR Terrorist). Affiliated with Staten Island's Wu-Tang Clan, Killarmy have managed to forge their own distinctive and unique identity. In keeping with their title, the crew's use of samples draws on war movies and military dialogue. They released 1996's debut single, "Camouflage Ninjas", through Wu-Tang/Priority. "Wu-Renegades" followed in 1997. Both singles were featured on their debut Silent Weapons For Quiet Wars, which was released in August. With beats supplied by up-and-coming producer 4th Disciple, the album was a solid if uninspiring addition to the Wu-Tang Clan stable. It debuted at a respectable number 34 on the Billboard album chart. The follow-up Dirty Weaponry was completed barely a year later, but demonstrated a more confident approach that helped to distinguish the album from other Wu-Tang releases. 4th Disciple provided fluid and smooth beats over which the six MCs laid down accomplished and lyrical raps on standout tracks such as "Galactics" and "Allah Sees Everything". Unusually for a Wu-Tang Clan product no guest artists were featured. One of the highlights of the hip-hop year, Dirty Weaponry deserved to fare better on the charts than its peak position of 40.
