b. 4 April 1973, Queens, New York City, New York, USA. Price, like many of the legendary soul singers to whom she is often compared, developed her musical talents in the local church, where she was nicknamed "Little Mahalia". Her powerful contralto was employed on a more secular plane during the 90s, either writing, singing background vocals or providing vocal arrangements for artists such as George Michael, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Aretha Franklin, the Isley Brothers, and Brian McKnight. A demo for Sean "Puffy" Combs led to Price being recruited as an in-house backing vocalist for his Bad Boy label, appearing on albums by Ma$e, the Notorious B.I.G., the LOX, and Combs himself.
