Kansas
Like Styx and Queen, Kansas found fame in the 1970s with a mixture of prog-rock complexity, hard-rock riffs, and pop hooks. But the group's early albums--marked by Robby Steinhardt's violin work--were much closer to real progressive rock than to the "pomp-rock" of their counterparts.

It is nice when people say that Kansas has withstood the test of time. Much like the contemporaries of Kansas' time, this group also managed to form its own path. Along the way, nearly everything "Kansas" has become classic or cult-classic. Everything about this group makes them legendary, and I'd say rightfully so. They have deserved it all: fame, fortune, and respect. Sure they've had bumps, what band hasnt? Yet, overall Kansas has prevailed and retained their "class act".

I've seen Kansas in concert in San Antonio in 1979. Myself and two co-workers got seats to sit behind where the band was performing. At the now defunked Hemisfair arena. Those seats were perhaps better then many of the others. Even though our seats were from their backs to us. Still we had a great time that evening.
