Kane & Abel
The half-Puerto Rican twin brothers, David (Kane) and Daniel Garcia (Abel), were born in the Bronx, New York, USA. Their parents died in a car accident shortly after they were born, after which the brothers relocated to New Orleans to live with their grandparents. They began rapping together as Double Vision, releasing the low-key Keep Your Eyes Open on Ionic Records in 1994. The brothers subsequently met up with female rapper Mia X, who introduced them to local hip-hop entrepreneur Master P. Signing a deal with his fledgling No Limit Records, the brothers released 1996's The 7 Sins under their new moniker, Kane And Abel. The album, as with all No Limit releases, featured production work by in-house engineers Mo B. Dick and KLC and guest appearances from labelmates including Master P and Mia X. One of the tracks, "Gangstafied", was the first song they played to Master P at their demo sessions. The US Top 5 album Am I My Brothers Keeper followed in July 1998, and helped establish the brothers as among the leading artists in the No Limit stable. It was also one of the better products to emerge from the New Orleans gangsta rap scene, tempering the hardcore flow with some subtle lyrical and melodic turns. The Garcias left No Limit after the release of the album to set up their own Most Wanted imprint. Rise To Power was released in September 1999 by Elektra Records.
