Jennifer Paige
b. 3 September 1973, Marietta, Georgia, USA. This sweet-voiced pop singer began performing at an early age, singing with her older brother at local coffee houses. She then studied dance, voice and performing arts at Pebblebrook school. After graduation Paige began performing as a singer with the popular covers act Joe's Band, relocating to Los Angeles in the process. In 1996, she teamed up with producer Andy Goldmark to record a dance version of Aretha Franklin's "Chain Of Fools". The record came to the attention of the German label Edel Records, who offered the singer a recording contract. One of the first numbers to be recorded by Goldmark and Paige was "Crush", a gloriously catchy piece of pure pop which became a huge local hit in early 1998. Another contract with Hollywood Records followed in June, by which time "Crush" had begun its inexorable rise up the US charts, eventually peaking at number 3. The single also became a substantial international hit. Paige's self-titled debut album was less of a commercial success, but indicated a burgeoning talent. The singer returned in summer 2000, performing a new track "Beautiful" on the soundtrack to the movie Autumn In New York. Her new studio album Positively Somewhere was premiered by the excellent single, "These Days".
