Len
This eclectic Canadian crew was formed in 1991 in Ontario, Canada by DJ Marc Costanzo aka the Burger Pimp (guitar/vocals) and his sister Sharon (bass/vocals). Playing a derivative mixture of post punk and pop the Costanzos released an EP and two albums on their own Four Ways To Rock imprint. The label enjoyed more success releasing records by local hip-hop crews, and during the mid-90s Costanzo expanded Len's line-up with the recruitment of D-Rock, DJ Moves and Planet Pea. Paying close attention to the work of the Beastie Boys and Beck, the new line-up concocted a post-modern stew incorporating guitar pop, old school beats, and electronica. This musical approach paid immediate dividends with the international success of the sing-a-long single "Steal My Sunshine", which gained widespread exposure on the soundtrack of the movie Go. No other track on You Can't Stop The Bumrush managed to match the exuberant charm of "Steal My Sunshine", although "Beautiful Day" and "Man Of The Year", featuring old school legend Biz Markie, came close. The rest of the album veered unevenly between old school ("Cryptik Souls Crew"), electro ("The Hard Disk Approach"), rock ("Feelin' Alright") and power pop ("Cheekybugger").
