Joi Cardwell
b. USA. When singer Joi Cardwell recorded her debut album, The World Is Full Of Trouble, in 1995, it was all too easy to ignore the subtleties of her nuanced delivery beneath the bewildering array of club styles employed. That mistake was rectified with the arrival of a 1998 follow-up collection. The highlights of Joi Cardwell included the full-blooded disco beats of "Soul To Bare" and "Power" and the more mellow, jazz-inflected "Crying Eyes". The self-produced Deliverance veered into urban R&B territory, although two further club gems, the title track and "Last Chance For Love", served to appease her loyal dance music fans.
