Moving Pictures
Formed in Sydney, Australia in 1980, Moving Pictures had a monster single, "What About Me?', in early 1982 which went to number 1 in Australia and made the US Top 30. The band comprised Alex Smith (vocals), Ian Lees (bass), Garry Frost (guitar, vocals), Charlie Cole (keyboards, trumpet, vocals), Andrew Thompson (saxophone) and Mark Meyer (drums), Moving Pictures" debut album featured strong ballads, but its rock-orientated live act was successfully captured on their second album which was a minor success. The band continued for several more years releasing a series of unsuccessful singles and another album before disbanding. The band would probably have achieved more success in the USA had its label Elektra Records not struck difficulties just as the band first charted. Guitarist Garry Frost later formed 1927, which also had an excellent response from Australian radio and the public.
