Firehouse Five Plus Two
The Firehouse Five Plus 2 were formed in 1949 by trombonist Ward Kimball. It was a semi-professional band whose members were drawn from the staff of Walt Disney's animation studios in Hollywood. Some members went on to full-time careers such as clarinettists Tom Sharpsteen and George Probert. The band were playing at the time of a renewal of interest in traditional jazz styles and although this was the basis of the band's music, the use of the bass saxophone, tuba and washboard encouraged their tendency towards a humorous rather frantic style which perhaps reflected their Walt Disney cartoon origins.
