Frenzal Rhomb
Formed in Sydney, Australia, Frenzal Rhomb once notoriously claimed to be "the punkest band in the world". Led by singer Jay Whalley, famed for his purple dreadlocks and high-energy performances, the group built its reputation as part of Sydney's burgeoning anarcho-punk/skateboarding culture of the early 90s. Following the edicts of their US "skatecore" peers, the group have come to prominence despite refusing to compromise their aims and objectives. They still decline to appear at any shows boasting corporate sponsorship, and have released two albums on their own Shagpile Records despite offers from major labels. Members of the group are also active in environmental politics, fanzine culture and counter-culture art. As the group's work began to attract international attention, their records were distributed by independents such as Real Cool (Japan) and Fat Wreck Chords (USA).
