88 Fingers Louie
This US punk pop outfit enjoyed a brief period of notoriety in the mid-90s, but a series of personnel upheavals effectively put paid to their chances of a long-term career. Dan Wlekinski (guitar/vocals) and Dennis Buckley (vocals) formed the band in early 1993 with the first of several rhythm sections. The band signed to the punk label Fat Wreck Chords in 1994, having already made their recording debut the previous year with a self-released EP. The Go Away and Wanted EPs followed before they switched labels to Hopeless Records for Behind Bars. The album replicated the sloppy punk charm of the earlier EPs, and a number of encouraging reviews followed, but the original line-up then fell apart during a 1996 tour. Wlekinski and Buckley re-formed the band in 1998 with Joe Principe (bass) and John Carroll (drums) and released Back On The Streets. The title proved prophetic as the band fell apart again the following year. Wlekinski and Principe later resurfaced in the more successful Rise Against.
