Randy Edelman
b. 10 June 1947, Paterson, New Jersey, USA. This US singer-songwriter won a large European audience in the mid-70s by writing and performing some classic love songs. A former staff writer at CBS Records, Edelman made his debut on the Sunflower label in 1971 with a self-titled album that went largely unnoticed. During the 70s, however, he slowly built up his reputation and finally reached the big time with 1976's hit single, "Uptown, Uptempo Woman". His highest chart entry in the UK came the same year with a revival of Unit Four Plus Two's 1965 hit "Concrete And Clay". By 1978 his singles career had ground to a halt, but during this period one of his songs, "Weekend In New England", was covered and made into a million-selling record by Barry Manilow. Other artists who have covered his material include the Carpenters, Olivia Newton-John and Patti LaBelle.
