Eddie Hinton
b. Edward Craig Hinton, 15 June 1944, Jacksonville, Florida, USA, d. 28 July 1995, Birmingham, Alabama, USA. Guitarist Eddie Hinton's professional reputation was largely built around his session work. Having originally played on the club circuit of the southern states of America, he moved to Muscle Shoals, Alabama, in the mid-60s. Between 1967 and 1971 he was a principal member of the Muscle Shoals Sound house band, performing with Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Elvis Presley, Percy Sledge, Joe Tex and many more. Although best known for his skilful guitar playing, Hinton was also proficient on several other instruments, including bass, drums and keyboards. His studio expertise saw him work as a producer, and he also wrote songs for others. His compositions included "Choo Choo Train" (Box Tops), "Breakfast In Bed" (Dusty Springfield and UB40) and "It's All Wrong, But It's All Right' (Percy Sledge). He released a debut solo album in 1978, but Very Extremely Dangerous failed to sell. Afterwards, Hinton, long considered by associates to be a troubled soul, experienced a period of depression that culminated in his admittance to the Alabama Rescue Mission. He returned to recording in the mid 80s with the European release Letters From Mississippi, before signing a new contract with the Rounder Records subsidiary, Bullseye Blues. Two albums followed, but in 1995 he was discovered dead after a heart attack in the locked bathroom of his parents" home.
